Formed in 1998 by Kyle Bateman (vocals) and Darren Wise (guitar), they began writing songs to be recorded for a compact disc release. With the addition of a bass player & drummer, DOWNWARD entered Crystal Clear Recording Studios in the spring of '98.
The result was a nine song CD with two tracks featured on 97.1 The Eagle's Local Show for an eight-week period. Local airplay & powerful live performances gathered positive attention for DOWNWARD on the local scene.
In April of 1999, DOWNWARD illustrated its prolific and evolving song writing skills by recording a four song EP with two tracks released on MP3.com. Soon it climbed to number one for several weeks, in addition to local radio airplay.
The next eight months were spent performing & writing new material for a full length CD. In December of '99, DOWNWARD recorded twelve new songs and the CD was released in January 2000. The CD release grabbed the attention of major recording labels & industry hard-hitters. The success of this CD allowed DOWNWARD to play with such national acts as Stone Temple Pilots, Systematic and many more.
In the fall of 2000, DOWNWARD recorded a 5-song demo at The Boiler Room in Austin, Texas. The demo was produced by David Dickinson & co-produced by Eugene Brown. After the recording of this demo, DOWNWARD signed a publishing contract with Hamstein Music Group.
With the addition of Joey Rusinko (bass) and Chris Moore (drums), DOWNWARD is currently preparing to enter the Boiler Room studio in Austin to record a 12 song self-titled CD. The band management, R Entertainment, along with the publishing company, is currently talking with major labels & is working on a distribution deal.
